Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
